Short-term Care Quality
We awarded this facility just a D for our short-term care rating. This is well below average in this category. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to measure a facility's rehabilitation services In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. We found that this place was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This facility a bit in this area as well, with just 48.4 percent of its patients returning home.
Moving on to the final category, this facility didn't fare well. With an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this was this nursing home's weakest category. The nursing grade features a number of subcategories. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This facility provided just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These metrics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
