Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. In forming our short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 6.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive category grades, this nursing home also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category usually have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. In computing a facility's nursing grade, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are with residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final category we graded is long-term care, in which this nursing home received a grade of C. This actually proved to be this facility's worst area. This is nevertheless not a poor grade. In computing our long-term care grades, we size up the personal care received by the facility's residents. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an above average total. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
