Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a strong short-term care grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an impressive grade of A. In computing these short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Our nursing rating includes numerous datapoints. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is long-term care. We gave this nursing home an acceptable score in this area, with a B-. Although this is not as dominant as many of this facility's other grades, it is still not a bad grade. Our long-term care scores are based on a nursing home's volume of nursing services. This means a vast spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
