Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to faring well in its overall grade, this facility received high marks in the area of short-term care as well. As a result, it received our highest score in that category with an A+. With our short-term care grade, we seek to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 7.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing rating is primarily based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to its high-end profile, this facility also was awarded a superb long-term care score, with a score of A-. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 98.56322 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Lastly, this nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a grade of A-. With this impressive grade, this place is one of the few facilities in Massachusetts to earn straight A's. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
