Facility Inspections
Although this facility's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually received a very good grade in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better grades. Our inspection ratings are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home received 11 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of B- in the area. Nursing scores are largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is far below the national average. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed well in this area. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving a patient even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's third highest score was short-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this category, it still performed somewhat poorly. Short-term care grades are typically used to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Given its poor rating in this area, we were not surprised to find this nursing home offered significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed was long-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this nursing home a D in this area. For patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 97.41935 percent of its residents, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
