Facility Inspections
Although this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it performed pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Remarkably, we awarded this facility a grade of C for our short-term care rating, which isn't a bad grade. Short-term care grades are often used to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Nurse Quality
This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. When determining our nursing ratings, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This particular facility provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is far below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we rated is long-term care, where this facility was given a poor grade in this area also. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this area, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Nursing homes that don't fare well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated only 89.036545 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best feature in this category.
