Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home was awarded a favorable long-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our higher scores in that category with a grade of B. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 94.65649 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a strong short-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that category with a score of B. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we scored is nursing, which is this facility's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Of course, this category hurt the facility's overall profile to a certain degree. Nursing ratings are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This place averaged just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Unfortunately, this nursing home also did not perform as well as we had hoped in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed in this category.
