Facility Inspections
The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded its next highest category score in the area of short-term care. We awarded this facility a B- in this category, which is a decent grade. Short-term care grades are often used to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. When determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we look at the quantity of hours nurses are with residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This particular facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is far below average. Finally, while this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this subcategory.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the last category, this nursing home really did not perform well. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this was its weakest grade. For prospective patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
