Facility Inspections
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that area, with an A. This is a much better score than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home earned high grades in the area of nursing as well. It earned one of our highest grades in that category with a score of C. Our nursing score is based on several subcategories, however, the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. Although this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this metric. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home a grade of just D for our short-term care grade. This is not a very good score. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Given its grade in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was long-term care, which was a weak spot for this nursing home. We gave this facility a grade of D in our long-term care category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinated 95.26316 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
