While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection grades are tied to several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Historical

In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing grade is largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged only 2.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality

F
Mar 19: FJan 20: DMar 20: DApr 20: FMay 20: FJun 20: FJul 20: FAug 20: F
Historical

The next category we assessed was long-term care. This facility's was given an abysmal long-term care score where it was given an F. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 97.402596 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.47 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

F
Mar 19: FJan 20: CMar 20: CApr 20: FMay 20: FJun 20: FJul 20: FAug 20: F
Historical

The final category we graded was short-term care. This nursing home received a very poor grade of F in this area. Short-term care scores are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Based on its score in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the data we looked at. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 20 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care grade.
