While we gave this nursing home a poor overall score, we gave it a B+ for our inspections rating. This is due to the facility receiving a decent inspection report this year. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's second most respectable category was short-term care. However, with a D in this category, it still performed somewhat badly. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. With its grade in this area, we were not stunned to find that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.9 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its long-term care score, which is well below average in this category. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. Once we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinates 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
The final category we graded is nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is a poor score. Our nursing grade is based on a handful of subcategories, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
