Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this ended up being a decent facility is it earned a very favorable inspection grade. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this nursing home's stronger areas was in the category of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B. Nursing scores are mostly associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded its third highest category score in the area of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of B- in this category, which is a respectable score. In forming our long-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's personal care services. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 93.23077 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is slightly lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.35 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed is short-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in that area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. In calculating our short-term care scores, we analyze a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is considered to be a reliable measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 41.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.
