Facility Inspections
To pair with its relatively modest overall grade, we gave this facility an A- for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall rating. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category usually have very few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility an impressive grade in long-term care. This facility earned a grade of B in this area, which turns out to be one of our more favorable grades. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. The nursing rating includes a handful of datapoints, but the paramount one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's least impressive category was short-term care, which is the last category we looked at. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area. In spite of a few acceptable grades in other areas, this grade is still of a concern so we felt obligated to point it out. Short-term care grades are generally employed to measure a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Considering its weak grade in this area, we were not shocked to find this nursing home provided substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 3.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
