Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall grade, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A-. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid facilities that have a long list of severe deficiencies. This place received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of long-term care, this facility received just a D in this area. Unfortunately, this ended up being its second best grade. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 95.899055 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality
The third category we looked at was short-term care. This nursing home's was given a poor short-term care score where it received a lowly F. Short-term care grades are commonly used to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our last category, this nursing home didn't fare very well in this area either. With a poor grade of F in nursing, this is just about as bad as it gets. Nursing scores are mostly associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided only 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. In addition to receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This statistic really pulled down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
