While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this place still had a relatively positive inspection report.

Moving on to the category of short-term care, this nursing home was given a grade of just D in that category. Sadly, this proved to be one of its better features. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. With its grade in this category, we were not stunned to find this facility offered substantially fewer physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients that returned home from this facility. We found that it fared reasonably well in this area, with 52.8 percent of its residents returning home.

Unfortunately, this facility received an F for its long-term care score. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. This nursing home's vaccination data lagged a bit behind a few of the other statistics in this category, such as its nursing hours. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 90.243904 percent of its residents. We'd like to see some improvement herein this statistic next year. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

The final category we rated was nursing, where this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel score in this category as well. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. Our nursing grade analyzes several data points, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. Quantity of nursing care does not appear to be the problem here. Based on the data, it looks like this place provides an above average 4 hours per resident per day. This is more nursing care than most facilities offer. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This place was above average in two of the major data points we look at, with good scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
