Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. In spite of this deficiency, this was still a relatively positive report.
Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only received a grade of D for its long-term care rating, which happens to be one of its more favorable category scores. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.65471 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality
We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in the area of nursing. In fact, we awarded it an D for that category, which is one of our best grades. The nursing category is based on several components, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these datapoints to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed is short-term care, in which this facility was given a rock bottom score in this category also. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. Our short-term care scores are believed to be most critical for people needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires more skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. With its score in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this place is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we looked at. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
