Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was given a very strong long-term care grade. This actually is this facility's second strongest category score. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 87.82609 percent of its residents. This is somewhat below what we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning our next category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our short-term care rating. This is a very strong rating. Our short-term care grades are crucial for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

There are a host of data points included in this grade. Many of these factors relate to nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
