Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall grade, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid places that have a long list of deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this was still a relatively favorable report.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's short-term care rating ended up being one of its more favorable grades. The facility received a grade of C in this area. In determining our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is more often than not a solid assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded was long-term care. We gave it an F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 97.87234 percent of its residents, which is higher than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
