Nurse Quality
Although we were not complementary of this nursing home's overall score, it actually earned an impressive nursing score this year. We gave it a B in this category. Our nursing rating is based on numerous subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This place was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
The next most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Short-term care grades are often employed to measure a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes with 50.7 percent of its patients returning home. This is a better rate than most facilities.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next best category was long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. In calculating our long-term care scores, we analyze the personal care received by a facility's residents. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home administered the vaccine to only 81.47139 percent of its residents. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.52 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
Moving on our final category of inspections, this facility received a terrible score. For places with bad inspection grades, you should scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This particular facility was hit with 2 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 5 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
