Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall score, we awarded this place a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report, which is still very impressive. A single deficiency isn't anything to panic about.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also was given a strong short-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this category. In crafting our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Our nursing rating is largely tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final category we assessed is long-term care, was this facility's weakest category. We gave this facility a D in that area. This really was one of the couple of weak points in an otherwise impressive report card. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 93.40659 percent of its residents. This is somewhat below what we were hoping for but still a decent figure. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
