Registered Staff Hours
This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home an impressive grade in short-term care. This nursing home earned a grade of B in this area, which is one of our more impressive scores. Short-term care scores are critical for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final metric we considered in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was long-term care, where this facility was given a grade of B- in this category. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is a very solid statistic. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Switching gears to our last area, this nursing home received a grade of C for nursing, which is an acceptable score. The nursing score is based on quite a few subcategories, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. Although this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this statistic. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving patients at least once a day.
