Facility Inspections
This facility received a strong overall grade as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this area. Inspection ratings are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its profile, this nursing home also received a score of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. In computing these short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
The third category we analyzed was long-term care. This nursing home was awarded an above average long-term care score, with a B in this category. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our last category, this facility received a grade of C in nursing, which we consider to be a respectable rating. We looked at the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses worked with patients, in computing our rating in this area. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below the national average. Lastly, we also considered a few quality-based measures in this category. While this facility didn't rank well in terms of its nursing hours per resident, it fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, in terms of the number of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, this place performed better than average. This is typically an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided with better nursing care.
