Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this facility's overall grade, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
The next best category we gave this facility in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated only 58.640778 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Nevertheless, this place excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it an D for that category, which is one of our highest grades. There are a host of subcategories included in this area. Many of the datapoints reflect levels of nurse staffing. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was short-term care, in which this facility received a rock bottom grade in this area also. We gave it a lowly F in this area, which is definitely very concerning. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. With its abysmal score in this category, we were not surprised to find that this nursing home provides substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 1.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
