Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of faring well overall, this nursing home also received nearly flawless government inspections. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that area with an A+. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also excelled in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Few facilities received a better grade in this area. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. Nursing ratings are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Switching gears to the final category, this nursing home also performed well in the short-term care category. We gave it a grade of A- in that category. This wrapped up a straight A profile. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most important for those in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
