Nurse Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. There are numerous subcategories included in this grade. Many of these subcategories are tied to nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an incredible 5.7 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is much better than what is provided by most places. Finally, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any facility the country in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received a virtually flawless government inspection. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. This was one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. It doesn't look like we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a fine long-term care score. This actually turned out to be its third most impressive category score. In that area, we gave this facility a score of A. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. One of the factors we considered after this facility's above average nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for seniors. This combination proved to be effective as this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final category, this nursing home received an excellent short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a B+ in that area, topping off one of our more impressive report cards. Short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home rather than remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
