Registered Staff Hours
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually received a relatively impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable grades in that area with a B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating and that actually turned out to be its second highest score. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This place provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This place performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these metrics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care score. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Based on its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this facility is well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the data we looked at. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care grade.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we scored is long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category likely don't provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes offer. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We found that this facility vaccinated just 82.20859 percent of its residents, which is several points lower than we expected. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
