Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Even though we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable short-term care grade this year. We gave it a B- in that category. Short-term care grades are vital for residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home also didn't grade out too badly in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a C in that category, which happens to be among its higher grades. In the area of long-term care, we focus more on the quantity of services provided by a facility, as opposed to more healthcare-oriented services. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated 63.157894 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit lower than what we expected. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing score analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

The final category we looked at was inspections. Unfortunately, this facility didn't receive glowing government inspections in recent years. As a result, we had to give it an F. We would advise paying special attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this bad of an inspection grade. We would scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they created a threat to patient safety or health. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
