While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Inspection scores are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

This nursing home's second most favorable area turned out to be its long-term care grade, where it was given a C. Long-term care grades assess a facility's personal care instead of the highly skilled nursing and healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated 77.79098 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is quite a bit lower than what we were hoping for. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility wound up receiving a rock-bottom grade in our short-term care area. It received an F in this category. Our short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Considering its poor rating in this category, we weren't stunned to learn this facility offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.

The next area we analyzed was nursing, in which this nursing home was given a rock bottom grade in this category as well. We gave it a lowly F in this area, which is obviously a major concern. Our nursing rating is mostly associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This place offered only 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
