Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Inspection scores are based on many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B-. Our nursing score weighs several components, but the main one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is far below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed is long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a C. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care, which was this nursing home's worst category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that category. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Considering its poor score in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this place provides substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 2.8 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
