We also wanted to point out the fact that this nursing home has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This exemplary nursing home also performed remarkably in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A+. Only a small group of facilities performed better in this category. Our short-term care ratings are probably most meaningful for folks in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Indiana in this area with 67.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed is long-term care. This facility also was given an A+ long-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to be awarded several A+ category scores. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We weren't able to track down information about this nursing home's vaccination rates. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
In our last area, this nursing home also received a very strong nursing grade, with a grade of A. This wrapped up a very favorable report card. Our nursing score is primarily based on a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 8.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to providing high levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the nation when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these metrics as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided.
