Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections category. This score is much more impressive than the place's overall score. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also was awarded an impressive long-term care grade. As a matter of fact, we awarded it a B in this category, which is one of our better. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 95.06315 percent of its patients, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses are with patients as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we rated was short-term care. It received a lowly F in this category, which is a poor grade. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
