Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better scores in that category, with an A. This is a notably better score than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Inspection scores are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also performed well in the category of long-term care, with high-end score of A- in this area. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 81.90709 percent of its residents. This is a few points lower than we anticipated. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.96 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this statistic can be skewed for some facilities due to some of the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing rating. We gave this nursing home an D. Our nursing score is primarily associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. With just 3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this place's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at was short-term care, which turned out to be this facility's weakest category. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category, which is clearly very disappointing. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 30.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
