Long-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are kept in good health. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 55 percent of its patients. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. Nursing grades are largely tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections
Tallying yet another strong category grade, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our fourth area, this facility also excelled in our short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a B+ in this area. This topped off a very strong profile. Short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
