Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

To go along with its decent overall score, we awarded this facility an A- for its inspection grade. This score is far better than the facility's overall rating. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we also wanted to note that this facility received strong short-term care marks this year. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with a B. This proved to be the facility's second highest grade. Our short-term care scores are important for people needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. Nursing scores are primarily tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final category we graded was long-term care. This nursing home received a C in this area. Long-term care grades are essential for prospective residents needing non-healthcare services such as personal care. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 48.163265 percent of its patients. This is quite a bit less than average. Nevertheless, this place excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
