While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections category. This grade is much more impressive than the facility's overall score. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. This nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B-. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a low total compared to most other nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this subcategory. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving residents more often.

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its short-term care rating, which is not an impressive grade. Our short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. As you might expect, we learned that this facility offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical nursing home. The last item we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.6 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.

The last category we scored is long-term care. This facility received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that category. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category likely don't provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 67.00507 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
