Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we graded this nursing home very poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a B- in that area. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is a very low figure. Finally, our nursing ratings also consider quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this place performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often an indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its patients.
Facility Inspections
As it turns out, its inspection reports were not the source of this facility's abysmal overall grade. In fact, it received a C in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in categories G through L. This indicates CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent danger to patient safety or health. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Long-term Care Quality
The third area we graded was long-term care. This nursing home's received an abysmal long-term care grade where it was given a lowly F. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to only 75.89041 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to our last category, this nursing home really did not perform very well here either. With a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. Short-term care grades are often employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
