Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving a quality overall score, this nursing home also earned excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our highest grades in that area, with an A. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its top-shelf profile, this facility also performed well in our long-term care area. In fact, it received a score of A for the area. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.552574 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.29 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. We weighed the levels of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses spent with residents, in calculating our score in this area. This particular nursing home provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these datapoints as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is short-term care. We awarded this facility a decent grade in that area, with a B-. Even though this isn't as high as many of its other grades, it is nevertheless not a major area of concern. In our short-term care grade, we strive to craft a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This place performed decently in this area, with 45.9 percent of its patients returning home.
