We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. The nursing rating analyzes many components, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This place provided 5.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is among the highest figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by these figures. On top of providing impressive levels of care, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls resulting in major injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home South Carolina.

This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this area. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home also was awarded a top-shelf short-term care grade. Indeed, this ended up being its third best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility a score of A. Short-term care ratings are critical for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One reason for this place's strong score in this category is it provides more care from registered nurses to its patients than the average nursing home. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Turning to the last category, this facility was given an excellent long-term care rating. In fact, we gave it an A in this category, giving this facility straight A's. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 92.62295 percent of its patients. Fortunately, this nursing home excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.06 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a substantially better hospitalization rate than the majority of nursing homes.
