Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. This nursing home was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable score was long-term care, but it nevertheless received a grade of just D in that category. This is still a relatively poor score. For residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 96.42857 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Our nursing grade is based on numerous factors. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This place performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed is short-term care. It received a lowly F for this area, which is a very poor score. Short-term care grades are vital for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. With a grade this poor for this area, we weren't surprised to find this facility was well below average in several staffing metrics we assess. The facility supplied substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.
