Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a D for its long-term care score, which was actually one of its more favorable category grades. Facilities that do not fare well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 92 percent of its patients, which is somewhat below what we expected. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its short-term care grade, which is not an impressive grade. In computing our short-term care grades, we size up a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This score is typically a useful assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. With its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.8 percent of its residents returning home. This was quite a bit below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The next area we looked at is nursing. This facility was given a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this area. There are a host of subcategories included in this grade. Many of the criteria relate to nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. On top of receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This statistic pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating substantially.
