Registered Staff Hours
We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that area with a grade of A. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. When determining a nursing home's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it scored well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality
The third category we analyzed is short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most meaningful for patients needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the last category, we awarded this facility a grade of D in the area of long-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category grade. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 94.81481 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
