Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our inspection grades weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We also gave this facility a positive score in long-term care. This nursing home received a B+ in this category, which happens to be one of our better grades. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than most nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility's next highest score is short-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this category, it still fared somewhat badly. Short-term care grades are typically employed to score a nursing home's rehabilitation services To provide good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Considering its abysmal grade in this category, we weren't shocked to discover this place provides substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our last category, this facility didn't perform well. With an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this was this nursing home's weakest category grade. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the amount of time nurses are with patients and the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This facility fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
