Facility Inspections
Although we didn't rate this nursing home favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A-. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid places that have too many severe deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We gave this facility just a D for our short-term care score and that actually turned out to be its next best category. In our short-term care category, we try to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Based on its weak grade in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this facility provided significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's next best score is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still performed relatively poorly. Nursing homes that don't score well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 84.92462 percent of its residents. This is pretty significantly lower than average. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the last area, this facility did not perform well here either. Due to a very poor grade of F in nursing, this is just about as bad as it gets. Our nursing score assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of training of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. In addition to rating below average in nursing hours per resident, this place also had poor scores in the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in both of these statistics. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics helped pull down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
