This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Our nursing score considers many subcategories. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a system of moving patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this nursing home also was given favorable short-term care scores in our assessment. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a score of B+. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to judge a facility's rehabilitation services In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to the next area, this nursing home was given a B- in long-term care, which is a respectable grade. In the area of long-term care, we focus on the amount of care provided by a facility, as opposed to more healthcare-oriented services. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.56897 percent of its residents. This facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
