Facility Inspections
In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Few places fared as well in this category. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area tend to have few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with quantity of nursing care available. This particular nursing home provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality
We also want to point out the fact that this nursing home received an impressive score of A in our long-term care category. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 73.655914 percent of its patients. This is somewhat less than we expected but still a respectable percentage. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the next category, this nursing home also performed admirably in our short-term care category. In fact, we gave it an A for that category. This completed a straight A report card. In determining our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is more often than not a solid measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
