Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

To go along with its relatively modest overall score, we gave this facility an A- for its inspection grade. This is far better than its overall score. Inspection ratings are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home received 9 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility an B. There are many datapoints within this area. Most of the factors reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we graded is long-term care, where this nursing home received a C in this category. Long-term care grades are typically used to assess a nursing home's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 98.357666 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we assessed is short-term care, which is a weak spot for this facility. We awarded this facility a grade of D for our short-term care category. Our short-term care grades are arguably most meaningful for individuals needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
