Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to earning a great overall score, this facility fared even better in our inspections category which is associated with the nursing home's recent inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for this area, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home was given high grades in the area of long-term care as well. In fact, it received one of our most favorable grades in that area with a score of A-. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 98.677246 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we graded was short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a decent grade of B-. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final area we rated was nursing. We gave it a grade of C in this area. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this category. When computing our nursing grades, we factor in both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, our nursing ratings also consider some quality-focused measures. We especially like to look at the percent of patients who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these statistics are decent measures of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these issues.
