Facility Inspections
On top of earning a great overall score, this nursing home excelled in inspections, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Our nursing grade is largely associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Wisconsin in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving patients at least once a day.

Additionally, this facility also received favorable short-term care grades this year. Indeed, we awarded it one of our more favorable scores in that category, with a grade of B+. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we rated is long-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B. While this ended up being its worst category grade, this is nevertheless a good grade. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.71591 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
