Nurse Quality
We also wanted to note that this nursing home excelled in our nursing category. We awarded them an A+ in this category. There are a number of subcategories within this category. Most of these subcategories are tied to staffing levels. This facility boasts a really impressive 5.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily, of which a significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. This is one of the better totals of nursing hours we were able to find. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this facility was also above average in several of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. For example, it performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These are generally good measures of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a virtually flawless inspection. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. This is one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+ category grades. Our inspection scores are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's inspections. Nursing homes that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Another strength for this nursing home is short-term care, where it received an A+ rating. This is just about as dominant as it gets in this area. In our short-term care score, we strive to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place performed as well as just about any facility in North Dakota in this area with 60.5 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
In our final category, we gave this facility an A+ for its long-term care score. This completed a very favorable report card. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. On top of providing very impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 99.74293 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. This combination proved to be effective as this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.69 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
