Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is as good as it gets in this area. Inspection scores account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was superb in our long-term care rating. We gave them an exemplary grade of A+ in this area. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. This facility's vaccination records were not as favorable as its nursing hours. It provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 86.61972 percent of its patients. We'd like to see some improvement in this area next year. This nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.5 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. When computing our nursing grades, we factor in both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This facility provided 5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an impressive figure. Lastly, this facility performed well in some of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the number of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this place outpaced the national average. This is usually an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed is nursing, is this facility's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a D in that area. This really was one of the couple of weak links in an otherwise impressive profile. Short-term care scores are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. We found that this place was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 20.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
