One of the many reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it received a very strong nursing score. Nursing turned out to be its best category. In this category, we awarded this facility an A. Our nursing score includes numerous factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Kansas in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving residents more frequently.

In addition, this facility also received a nearly flawless government inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A. Our inspection scores are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's government inspections. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also want to emphasize the fact that this nursing home received a superb grade of A in our long-term care category. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.62543 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility also performed well in the short-term care category. We gave it a grade of A- in this category. This rounded out truly elite report card. In our short-term care category, we seek to create a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
